The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, in collaboration with Amnesty International and the Dignity Initiative, is organizing an event titled ‘Burst Out of Your Bubble, Connect with your Community,’ in celebration of International Human Rights Day.

The organisation of ´Wreaths across Canada’ intends to place (shortly before Christmas) a wreath on the graves of every fallen Canadian soldier in WWI or WWII.

13 Watch "A Noble Intention" @ 31st European Union Film Festival (EUFF)

The contribution of the Netherlands this year to the EUFF is “A Noble Intention” by director Joram Lürsen. A Noble Intention is an adaptation of Thomas Rosenboom’s famous novel Publieke Werken set in late 19th century Netherlands during the expansion of Amsterdam.

15 Celebrated Caribbean author Cynthia McLeod to visit Carleton University

On November 10th, Surinamese writer and activist Cynthia McLeod will offer a workshop for graduate students and 3 public events including a film screening of 2013’s The Cost of Sugar.

16 Nederlands Dans Theater back in Canada

The Netherlands Dans Theater (NDT) performs this week in Montreal until November 5 (2016) in Théâtre Maisonneuve. Ambassador Henk van der Zwan welcomed Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) at the well received first performance. Before travelling to New York, the group will be presenting their show on November 9 at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.

17 CETA - a trade deal that sets a new standard for global trade

After years of negotiations, Canada and the EU signed CETA, the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement. This deal will create jobs and growth by boosting trade and strengthening economic relations. CETA's progressive nature will set a new global standard for sustainability chapters in trade agreements. It will make business with Canada easier, remove customs duties, substantially improve access to public contracts, open up new sectors of the Canadian services market, offer predictable conditions for investors, and protect Geographical Indications.

18 The official Canada 150 tulip is being planted in Canada’s Capital

The Canada 150 tulip, the official tulip of Canada’s 150th anniversary, was planted on October 21 in Ottawa in Commissioners Park. Just in time for the 2017 celebrations next spring, more than 300,000 Canada 150 tulips will bloom across the Capital Region and thousands more will bloom in community gardens from coast to coast.

20 Netherlands to continue contributing to UN mission in Mali in 2017

The Dutch mission will continue, comprising around 290 military personnel, and will remain focused primarily on intelligence gathering and analysis. The contribution will consist of a long-range reconnaissance unit, analysts, police officers and civilian personnel.
